A leading commercial bank in Southern Africa, operating under DFI lending frameworks and IFC Performance Standards, engaged Ekonava Impact Partners to transform its credit appraisal process. The bank's Environmental and Social Due Diligence (ESDD) function relied on manual document review across eight sequential steps, creating bottlenecks between Account Relationship Managers (ARMs) and the ESG team, and producing inconsistency in E&S risk outputs delivered to credit committees.
Ekonava mapped the full eight-step process and designed an intelligent, automation-driven integration covering: automated initial screening and ESMS gap analysis; digitised Exclusion List verification with system-generated rationale; automated E&S categorisation (Category A, B, C, and FI) benchmarked against IFC PS1, ILO Core Labour Standards, and World Bank EHS Guidelines; Environmental and Social Action Plan (ESAP) generation with evidence-linked recommendations; and structured, audit-ready credit committee reporting. The system applies the four-eye principle throughout, preserving ESG Officer override capability with a complete audit trail at every stage.
Projected Outcomes
A pan-African private equity firm managing a diversified portfolio of investee companies across multiple geographies required a purpose-built platform to collect, structure, and monitor ESG performance data from its portfolio. The fund's existing process relied on fragmented spreadsheets and email-based data requests, making year-over-year comparison and fund-level oversight difficult to execute with confidence.
Ekonava Impact Partners executed a multi-tenant data platform with individual secure portals for each investee company, role-based contributor access, and a centralised fund manager dashboard. The system aimed at delivering real-time data collection, year-over-year performance tracking across standardised ESG indicators, incident and complaint monitoring with priority-tiered alerts, and export-ready reporting formatted for LP-level stakeholder audiences. A scorecard module applies a consistent measurement framework across all portfolio companies, giving the fund the precision it needs to benchmark performance and surface risk concentration at scale.
Platform Capabilities
A development finance institution operating across Sub-Saharan Africa sought to overhaul its corporate digital presence. Its existing website was structured around internal organisational logic rather than the needs of its primary audiences, comprising policymakers, financial sector practitioners, impact investors, and implementing partners, making it difficult to surface the depth of research and programme work the institution produces.
Ekonava Impact Partners proposed a full digital transformation delivered across five phases over 16 weeks: discovery and stakeholder research; information architecture and user experience design; visual design and modular component library; CMS development with structured, automation-ready content modelling; and a scalable microsite framework for initiative-level platforms. The approach repositions the institution's web presence from a static repository into an active knowledge platform that serves distinct audience journeys, surfacing programmes, publications, and impact data through Elasticsearch-powered search across themes, geographies, and funding instruments.
